Verifying an Offer Letter with the Employer

What Happens After an Applicant Uploads an Offer Letter

Written by Brittany

How the Process Works

Applicants must first complete their income verification by linking their bank account or payroll account. At the end of the verification workflow, they have the option to upload an offer letter after successfully linking an account.

If an applicant is unable to connect a bank or payroll account and our Support team enables document upload as an alternative, they will also see the option to upload an offer letter at the end of the document upload workflow. This ensures applicants who qualify through document verification can still have their offer letter verified.

Once an offer letter is uploaded, our team begins a separate employment verification process by contacting the employer to confirm the details included in the offer letter, such as:

  • Job title

  • Pay rate

  • Start date

  • Other employment details listed in the offer letter

When We Verify Offer Letters

If the start date listed on the offer letter is more than 30 days in the past, we do not complete employment verification. At that point, the applicant should already have established income from the position, which should be reflected through their linked bank account, payroll account, or uploaded income documents.

Offer Letter Verification Report

Once the verification process is complete, Payscore generates a separate Offer Letter Verification Report. This report is independent of the Income Verification Report and includes:

  • The employment details we were able to verify

  • The verification outcome

  • The name and title of the employer representative who provided the verification (when applicable)

If we are unable to reach the employer or complete the verification, a report will still be generated explaining why the verification could not be completed.

Please note that Offer Letter Verification can take 3–5 business days, depending on how responsive the employer is.

Why Offer Letter Income Is Not Included in the Income Report

The income shown on the Payscore Income Verification Report is based solely on the applicant's current, verifiable income. Because an offer letter represents future earnings, we do not include those earnings in the income calculation or update the income reported at the top of the report.

This is because we cannot accurately estimate an applicant's future monthly income based on an offer letter alone. Variables such as hours worked, overtime, unpaid time off, bonuses, commissions, shift differentials, and other forms of compensation can significantly impact actual earnings.

Instead, the Offer Letter Verification Report serves as a separate verification confirming that the employment offer and the employment details provided in the offer letter have been validated by the employer.

We hope this provides additional clarity on how offer letters are handled within Payscore. If you have any questions about a specific applicant or verification, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Customer Success team.
