Can I delete my Payscore account or data?

Explains why Payscore can't delete completed verification reports, what we can turn off instead, and your rights to see and dispute your file.

Written by Stephen Arifin

Payscore is a consumer reporting agency (CRA) under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. That means the verification reports we produce, and any disputes about them, are records we're required to keep for a set retention period. Because of that, we can't erase your verification history on request.

Here's what we can and can't do, and what you're entitled to.

What we can't delete

  • Verification reports that have already been completed and shared with the property manager, landlord, or lender who requested them.

  • Records of any dispute you've filed with us about a report.

We keep these for 6 years, after which they're disposed of securely.

What we can do

  • Disconnect your bank or payroll accounts. Once your verification is complete, Payscore no longer needs access to your financial accounts, and we can disconnect them.

  • Stop future requests. We only run a verification when a property manager, landlord, or lender sends you a request. If you don't complete it, no report is produced.

Your rights under the FCRA

Whether or not your data is deleted, you have rights in how it's used:

  • Get a copy of your file. You're entitled to see the information we hold about you and what we've reported.

  • Dispute anything inaccurate. If something in your report is wrong or incomplete, tell us and we'll investigate. If we can't verify it, it gets corrected or removed.

  • Know who received your report. You can ask us who we've shared your report with.

State privacy laws

Some states give residents the right to request deletion of personal information. Those laws generally carve out information handled under the FCRA, which covers most of what Payscore holds about you. If you'd like us to review a deletion request under your state's law, contact us and we'll tell you what we're able to do.

How to reach us

Message us at [email protected], and tell us what you'd like. We'll confirm what we've done and what we're required to keep.
