Trouble Connecting a Payroll Account That Uses SSO (Single Sign-On)

Explains how to troubleshoot SSO payroll login issues, including resetting credentials with the payroll provider and using bank connection if SSO blocks access

Why This Happens

Some payroll providers use Single Sign-On (SSO), which means you log in through your employer’s portal (such as Okta, Microsoft, or a company login page) instead of using a standard payroll username and password.

If you do not have direct payroll credentials, the connection may fail during verification.

This does not mean your payroll provider is unsupported.

Step 1: Try Logging in Through Your Payroll Provider First

If you’re unsure of your payroll login credentials:

  • Go directly to your payroll provider’s website (not the mobile app)

  • Create an account if you’ve never logged in before

  • Or reset your username/password

Once you confirm you can log in successfully on the payroll provider’s website without SSO, return to your verification and try connecting again.

Step 2: If Your Employer Uses SSO-Only Access

Some employers only allow payroll access through a company SSO portal with no standalone login. In these cases, the payroll account may not be able to connect through automated verification.

If this happens, you should complete verification by connecting your bank account instead.

Your bank connection allows us to verify income through direct deposits and will still generate a valid verification report.

Does This Affect My Application?

No.

If payroll cannot be connected due to SSO restrictions, connecting your bank account is a fully accepted alternative and will not negatively impact your verification.

Still Having Trouble?

If you’ve:

  • Reset your payroll credentials

  • Confirmed you can log in on the provider’s website

  • And still cannot connect

Please use the live chat button on your verification page to contact support. A support agent can guide you through the next best verification option.
